Writing Workshop

Our next Writing Workshop is on
Thursday 19 June, 6pm
in the staffroom.
I look forward to seeing you!

Writing Supports

There are some fantastic websites which the children can use independently or with you. They are fun and engaging.

http://www.switchzoo.com/zoo.htm Create your own animal and have fun writing about it

http://www.piclits.com/compose_dragdrop.aspx A range of inspiring photos and supporting vocabulary

http://www.scholastic.com/teachers/story-starters/ Story Starters to get the ball rolling

http://www.funenglishgames.com/writinggames.html A range of fun writing activities

Setting Goals

Ask your child what their writing goals are and how they intend to attain them.
In class they will be discussing their Learning Intentions.
Recently we have been working towards Adding descriptive language to our writing. We will know we have achieved this when we have used metaphors in our writing.
We monitor our own and others writing for support.

5Ws and H

Encourage lots of quality oral language in order to build ideas. Use the 5 Ws Who, What, Where, When and Why. Also ask How.
Prompt your child to use these prompts also. Use them wherever you are and whatever you are doing, whether reading a book or driving in the car.
